“I think the orders have already hit the first year of production numbers,” he said. “It’s nearly sold out. It’s so close that it’s bound to be sold out soon.”

Chevy started accepting orders for the new Corvette following the car's July 18 reveal so the pace of sales has been nothing short of dramatic, though it's easy to see why. The car offers performance and technology surpassing many exotic models for a starting price of under $60,000.

Chevrolet spokesman Kevin Kelly told Motor Authority, “The level of enthusiasm around the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has surpassed all expectations. We have nothing to report in terms of reservations or order numbers at this time.”

Chevy's last Corvette hit sales of just under 35,000 in the United States in its first year on the market.
Given Chevy's global ambitions with the new Corvette, sales could be substantially higher. In preparation for the car's arrival, Chevy expanded the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and added a second shift.

Squared-off steering wheels are now in vogue. Please adjust your lookbooks accordingly.

Right now, automotive enthusiasts are hungry for midengine Corvette content. But with the reveal still a week away, everyone is pretty much taking what they can get. Chevy teased the car itself when it announced the date of its reveal, but we haven't seen much more from them until today.

Chevrolet on Friday published the first official image of the 2020 C8 Corvette's steering wheel. It's closer to the steering wheel of, say, the Ford GT than the outgoing Corvette. There are only two spokes on the wheel, each moving downwards in sort of a flipped manner to the Corvette logo's flags. There are audio controls below each spoke, and some limited switches on the spokes themselves. The massive open space above the wheel hub looks kind of funny, but that might be necessary if the Corvette has a large gauge cluster, digital or otherwise.

Chevrolet also put out a picture of each prior generation's steering wheel to give people an idea of how much it's changed over time. The first- and second-generation Corvette wheels were about as straightforward as can be, but those designs are much harder to replicate in the modern day, thanks to pesky airbags and the like. The last time we saw a two-spoke wheel from the Corvette, it was in the C4, which had a fun digital dashboard filling in all the open space.

The least attractive wheel of the bunch belongs to the C5 Corvette, with its airbag looking like a very obvious goiter. Then again, that was also the low point in the Corvette's interior design, with barely shaped plastic panels that basically became a meme in the automotive enthusiast community before memes became a "thing."

It'll be interesting to see where Chevrolet takes the Corvette's interior next, given the radical changes happening everywhere else on the car -- like, you know, removing the engine from the front. We'll know what's up for sure when the C8 Corvette makes its debut on July 18 at 7:30 p.m. PT, and you can follow along with us on GM's own livestream.

Test Drive Thursday - The Chevrolet Traverse

CHEVROLET TRAVERSE

Everybody in

Whether you’re looking to hold a large family or just your big personality, Traverse is ready for anything. This midsize SUV offers the technology to help keep you on track, capability you can depend on and advanced safety features to help you arrive with confidence.

There is plenty of room in the back of the Traverse.

The infotainment screen moves
up to place some of your personal effects.

Some of the packages come with a front and rear moonroof!

There are so many great features with vehicle:
  • Passenger room is generous in all three rows
  • Loads of space for any combination of passengers and cargo
  • Feature-rich infotainment system comes with standard Wi-Fi hotspot
Is the Chevrolet Traverse a Good SUV?

Yes, the Chevrolet Traverse is a good SUV. It isn't as energetic or upscale inside as some competitors, but it has more passenger and cargo space than almost every class rival, along with a user-friendly infotainment system. It also delivers a cushioned ride even over rough pavement, and it gets decent fuel economy. Because the Traverse has the best combination of cargo and passenger space, safety and reliability ratings, positive reviews from automotive journalists, and available family-friendly features in its class.

Should I Buy a New or Used Chevrolet Traverse?

The 2019 Traverse is part of a generation that began with the 2018 model year. Though there aren't many notable differences between the 2018 and 2019 models, the 2018 redesign brought several changes. The V6 engine gained 29 extra horsepower, and Chevy offered a turbo-four engine with the Traverse for the first time.

Fuel economy improved slightly with the redesign, but cargo space decreased (though the post-redesign Traverse still has more cargo room than almost every rival). New standard features for the 2018 Traverse included a 7-inch touch screen, the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment interface, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and six USB ports.

You can probably save money by purchasing a used Traverse, but know that you'll miss out on the redesign updates if you get a model from 2017 or before. If you're considering an older model, read our 2017 Traverse review to help you decide if you can live without the 2018 model's changes. If you decide that an older model is right for you, check out our Used Car Deals page to learn about savings and discounts on used vehicles.

Stop on by, and let's go for a test drive in YOUR NEW Chevrolet Traverse.

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado's New Weapon in the Pickup Wars

Chevrolet is promising that the 3.0L Duramax inline-six turbo diesel will be an engine worth waiting for. The automaker says the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado in-line six will deliver class-leading torque and horsepower while giving great fuel economy and capability in the full-size light duty truck segment. It is the first-ever inline-six turbo-diesel offered in Chevrolet’s full-size light-duty trucks.

Waiting on Certification

Chevrolet still can’t tell us when you’ll be able to own one of the 2020 Silverados with the in-line six, the company is still waiting for the government to officially certify the all-new engine. Chevy had originally hoped to have the engine ready for some of the 2019 model Silverados but was forced to delay after the government shutdown earlier this year. A Chevrolet spokesperson told me late this afternoon, Chevy is prepared to start the diesel production right along with the other 2020 Silverado models as soon as the company gets the green light. According to Chevrolet, the 2020 Silverado will go into production, in Flint, Michigan, late this summer.

The all-new turbo diesel is priced identically to the 6.2L V-8. Either of those engines is a $2,495 premium over a 5.3L V-8 model or $3,890 over a 2.7L Turbo model.

“From the moment the engine is started, to its idle, acceleration and highway cruising, the 3.0L Duramax performance will change perceptions of what a diesel engine can offer in refinement,” said Nicola Menarini, director for Diesel Truck Engine Program Execution. “With advanced technologies that draw on global diesel expertise, it’s a no-compromise choice for those who want the capability and driving range of a diesel in a light-duty truck.”

2020 Silverado Diesel Available with Several Trims

The 3.0L Duramax diesel will be available on LT, RST, LTZ and High Country models. The Duramax diesel will give Silverado buyers a choice of six different engines, depending on what they want and need to get the job done.

Chevy is releasing several new details about the in-line six.

It is rated at an SAE-certified 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It will deliver 95 percent of peak torque at 1,250 rpm. The diesel is paired with 10-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet says that a special torque converter will give a smoother, more comfortable ride. It will also offer exhaust braking to help slow the vehicle so drivers won’t have to ride their brakes when in Tow and Haul Mode. The all-new diesel engine will feature ceramic glow plugs which will heat up more quickly and get hotter than traditional glow plugs. That will mean better starts in cold weather. The engine block heater shouldn’t be necessary until 22 degrees below 0 Fahrenheit.
Menarini says “The new Duramax 3.0L elevates the 2019 Silverado with one of the most refined and efficient diesel engines in the segment.”

Quieter Engine Operation

One of the biggest complaints about diesel is the engine noise but Chevrolet says “Along with supporting elements such as a tuned air induction system and other noise-attenuating elements, the 3.0L Duramax delivers exceptional quietness and smoothness at all engine speeds.”
The all-new Duramax cylinder block is made of a cast aluminum alloy, so it has about 25 percent less mass than a cast iron engine block. It does use iron cylinder liners inside the aluminum block to improve durability.

The 2020 Silverado 1500 with the 3.0L Duramax inline-six turbo diesel will also have stop/start technology to improve overall fuel economy. The system shuts off the engine at stoplights and other stop-and-go situations to save fuel.
Fuel economy numbers will be released closer to actual production, after the engine is officially certified.
